Better Sleep Month︱Events
By Sophia C.
Better Sleep Month is observed in the month of May. The main purpose of this awareness campaign is to educate people about the importance of getting quality sleep and the negative consequences of sleep deprivation. During Better Sleep Month, the focus is on raising awareness about the benefits that come with better sleep and how lack of sleep can disrupt everyday life. It aims to emphasize that a good night's sleep is just as essential as maintaining a proper diet and engaging in regular exercise. Sleep deprivation can have various short-term and long-term effects on both physical and cognitive health. In the short term, it can lead to feelings of grogginess and impaired cognitive function. Over time, chronic sleep deprivation can increase the risk of developing serious health conditions such as obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and mental health disorders. Getting enough sleep is crucial for the body and brain to function optimally. During sleep, the brain processes and stores information, replenishes chemicals, and promotes overall cognitive well-being.
Additionally, quality sleep plays a vital role in maintaining physical and cognitive performance, enhancing memory consolidation, and supporting immune function. To promote better sleep, it is recommended to adopt good sleep habits and establish a consistent sleep routine. This may include creating a comfortable sleep environment, avoiding stimulating activities before bedtime, and practicing relaxation techniques. For individuals experiencing insomnia, behavioral strategies such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia can be effective in improving sleep quality. Furthermore, research has shown a bidirectional relationship between exercise and sleep. Regular physical activity has been associated with better sleep quality and can serve as a nonpharmacologic treatment option for sleep-related issues. Engaging in exercise during the day can help regulate sleep patterns and promote deeper, more restful sleep at night. In conclusion, Better Sleep Month in May serves as an important reminder of the significance of quality sleep for overall health and well-being. By raising awareness about the benefits of better sleep and providing education on sleep hygiene practices, this campaign aims to improve sleep habits and ultimately enhance individuals' physical and cognitive performance
Poem for national pocket poem day︱Events
By Sofia
From the laughs and giggles we shared to the deepest feeling of despair.
How could you leave me like this? I’d always ask.
But “I didn’t mean to” was always the response.”
Leaving me feeling like a fool to think you’d be there.
Because who’s the real fool to be the one to stay with me. “Please stay.” I’d say.
What a foolish thought I’d always say to myself despite the sincerity those words held.
Because who am I other than the one who is to love
“Please stay.”
Yet you left with no remorse whatsoever.
Leaving me to think who I am without you.
As a unsolved puzzle I am yet to search for the missing piece. That makes me a human.
I am yet to realize the whole world that is inside me outside of the naive girl people think I am..
Love Burns
The sun wanted to be looked at. He waited out all day.
Just like we shake a friendly hand he extended out his rays.
He wanted to be looked at by the people down below.
He illuminated the world only for them to reside in the shadows.
The sun wanted to be looked at, the way they look at the moon. How they stare at her and wonder! But from him they avert their gaze too soon.
Was he simply no beautiful enough? Then love was hard to earn. It did not matter how brightly he shined if the love he gave only burned.
