History of St. Patrick Day︱Holidays
By Brandon

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated on March 17. This year it falls on Sunday, March 17, 2024. St. Patrick was the patron saint of Ireland. He was born in Roman Britain and was kidnapped from Ireland to be a slave. He escaped but came back to Ireland to spread Christianity. He built many churches and schools in Ireland before he died. When many Irish immigrants came to the United States, they brought their own holidays and their own beliefs. One of them is St. Patrick. Many of the Irish immigrants were in Boston, and Boston held the first St. Patrick’s Day celebration in 1737. Another place with many Irish immigrants is NYC, which also started its own celebration for St. Patrick’s Day, starting the oldest St. Patrick’s Day parade in 1762.
